If you’re a fan of American cars from the swingin’ ‘60s but have been put off ever owning one by the astronomical prices commanded at a few televised auctions, take heart!
There are still plenty of desirable cars from that era in excellent condition or with decent restorations that fall well short of the million-dollar price points achieved by a few extraordinary vehicles.
In fact, the vast majority of such cars on the market can be had for well short of six figures. They may not be the elusive, one-of-just-a-handful, out-the-back-door muscle cars the factories built solely to burnish their drag strip images. But they are true representatives of their times that promise real, not speculative, value for their buyers.
Here’s a cross-section of 16 such vehicles on offer at the RM Sotheby’s Fort Lauderdale auction on March 29-30, 2019. Their expected sales prices (US$ shown in parentheses after their descriptions) are all less than US$100-000 – some of them dramatically less.
So don’t give up your dreams just yet. There are plenty more like these still out there.
