Highlights of preview days at the 2013 North American International Auto Show

North American Car and Truck of the Year - The show kicked off with the announcement of the 2013 North American Car and Truck of the Year winners. The Cadillac ATS took the top car award while the Ram 1500 took the truck honours.

Following is an alphabetical list of some of the key introductions, with links to related articles and information:

Acura NSX Concept – an updated concept version of Acura's next-generation NSX mid-engine sports car that evolves the car's styling and design another step closer to production. For the first time, it includes a possible direction for the new NSX's interior design. When it reaches production, it will be powered by a direct-injected V-6 engine mated to Acura’s Sport Hybrid SH Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.

2014 Acura MDX prototype – previews the third generation of Acura's mid-size, three-row SUV coming this summer. It is almost four centimetres lower and slightly longer than the current MDX, "jewel-eye" multi-beam LED headlights and a toned-down grille. Its 3.5-litre V-6 features direct injection and cylinder deactivation. Production will shift from Honda's plant in Alliston, Ontario, where it has been built since 2001, to the company's light truck plant in Alabama.

2014 Audi SQ5 – gasoline-engine version of high-performance SUV destined for North America.

2014 Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible – drop-top variant of high-performing Continental GT Speed Coupe.

BMW Concept 4 Series – new 3 Series coupe and convertible, which will be renamed as 4 Series.

2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupé – 560-horsepower M variant of BMW's coupe-styled four-door sedan.

2014 BMW Z4 – facelifted BMW sports car features updated exterior and interior details.

2014 Cadillac ELR – production version of Converj concept car, with Volt-based powertrain. GM says it will offer "an unprecedented combination of luxury, advanced engineering and progressive design in a coupe that is both sporty and environmentally friendly." The ELR should be able to go about 50 km on pure electric power at which point the gasoline engine comes into play. The ELR can be plugged into a household outlet to recharge overnight. It will have LED lights, 20-in wheels and Cadillac's new CUE infotainment system.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette – seventh-generation version of Chevrolet's iconic sports car reprises Stingray name. It's all-new from road to roof, including a new 450-hp small-block engine.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado – first public showing of all-new full-size pickup revealed to the media in December. Scheduled to go on slale mid-year, it will be available with a choice of three engines, all featuring direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing and all providing more power, more torque and better efficiency than the versions they replace.

2013 Dodge Dart GT – performance-oriented variant of Chrysler's Fiat-based compact.

2014 Ford Transit – Euro-designed replacement for Fords E-Series full-size van

2014 GMC Sierra – first public showing of all-new full-size pickup revealed to the media in December.

Honda Compact Urban SUV concept – previews a future Fit-based CUV expected to be produced by Honda.

Hyundai HCD-14 concept – a sedan concept expected to predict Hyundai's next-generation Genesis luxury car.

2014 Infiniti Q50 – replacement for current G-model sedans and first to adopt Infiniti's new naming system.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee – facelift of Jeeps big SUV with eight-speed transmission and available diesel engine.

2014 Lexus IS sedan – new third-generation of little RWD Lexus restyled to incorporate current brand styling.

Lincoln MKC Concept - An advanced look at a compact luxury SUV expected from Lincoln for the 2015 model year.

2014 Maserati Quattroporte – enlarged and restyled version of four-door Maserati with new Ferrari-built engine.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet – two-door variants of recently-facelifted E-Class sedan.

2014 Mini Paceman JCW – performance version of another Mini variant available with all-wheel drive.

Nissan Resonance concept – a hybrid-electric crossover concept.

2014 Nissan Versa Note - Hatchback variant of new Versa is based on world-market Note, which made its debut in Japan last summer. Coming this summer, the roomy little hatch will be built alongside its sedan sibling in Mexico, It will have a manual transmission or Nissan's CVT automatic. Optional equipment will include Nissan's Around-View Assist and a navigation system.

Toyota Furia concept – sedan concept speculated to preview next-generation Corolla.

Volkswagen Passat Performance Concept – VW explores the sportier side of its Passat sedan to preview an upcoming production model.
