Jaguar is adding all-wheel-drive as standard fitment on its F-Type R Coupe, beginning with the 2016 model year. In addition, the F-Type model range will grow from six to 12 derivatives for 2016.
The AWD R Coupe, along with the rest of the expanded F-Type model range, will make its public debut at the 2014 Los Angeles International Auto Show on November 19.
"Our target with engineering the all-wheel-drive F-Type was to maintain the engaging rear-drive character that's so important to Jaguar sports cars, yet offer even greater dynamic capability," says Ian Hoban, Jaguar's vehicle line director.
The addition of what it calls Instinctive All-Wheel-Drive, plus Intelligent Driveline Dynamics, will provide F-Type R drivers with improved traction and confidence in a variety of road conditions, the company says.
It is said to accelerate from 0-to- 97 km/h (60 mph) in 3.9 seconds – an improvement of 0.2 seconds from its RWD counterpart, and the same limited top speed of 299 km/h (186 mph).
Full details of the 2016 F-Type model range will be revealed at the 2014 Los Angeles International Auto Show on November 19. Additions are expected to include variants with manual transmissions and availability of a high-performance four-cylinder engine from JLR's new Ingenium engine family.
