Here is a handy little item for your toolbox, glove compartment or kitchen drawer – Black & Decker’s new Gyro rechargeable screwdriver.
It is called "Gyro" because it reacts to the way you move when holding it. Twist your wrist one quarter turn to the right and it tightens a screw, twist to the left and it loosens it. The more you turn your hand, the faster it moves, up to 180 rpm.
The "world’s first motion activated screwdriver" also has a bright LED light that is activated when you squeeze the handle.
The Gyro comes with two standard screwdriver bits, but the hexagonal spindle accommodates the full array of Torx, Robertson or Phillips bits.
The stubby, light little unit is powered by a four-volt lithium-ion battery so there is no memory effect and a charge lasts up to 18 months, according to Black & Decker.
You know when a recharge is necessary when the LED light flashes. In the event the unit is activated by mistake in your toolbox, it will automatically shut off after 45 seconds.
