GoClean Waterless Car Wash

When I was first approached by Canadian Tire to try a waterless car wash for "World Water Day" I thought it was the brainchild of some marketing wizard or agency with the account for "GoClean waterless", the folks producing an array of products developed to be used with little or no water.

But upon closer study I learned World Water Day (March 22, 2014) is in fact legitimate. The UN, its member states and other stakeholders have declared the day to draw attention to the issue of water and the energy required to pump, treat and transport the vital liquid. The generation of that energy – whether by hydroelectric, nuclear or thermal means also involves water.

There is inequity in the availability of safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and energy between the "have" and "have not" areas of the world.

As part of the drive to raise awareness of the linkage between water and energy, Canadian Tire is promoting the use of GoClean waterless products. The line of waterless, silicone-free, plant based and biodegradable auto cleaning products and accessories has been developed to allow you to clean your vehicle without using a drop of water.

The line includes exterior and multi-purpose cleaners, tire shine and other products. It will be of great interest to those living in areas of the country where washing your car with water is banned.

The product I tried – the Waterless Wash – contains "natural and biodegradable surfactants, lubricants and polymers.

Applied to the hood of a new 2014 vehicle with a light layer of road grim and dark paint, it effectively cleaned the surface. I turned the cloth many times to avoid rubbing in the removed dirt. A close examination of the finished product revealed some very mild cobwebbing on the finish.

I would not recommend GoClean Waterless wash for your pride and joy if you are someone who regularly cleans and waxes it. There is no replacement for properly flushing dirt and debris away before wiping the surface with anything and using plenty of liquid with a mild detergent to ensure a clean surface.

However, GoClean Waterless wash is a great way to remove major grime for those who are not fanatical about their vehicle. Use it after a heavy rain storm!
