Ford this week made the 11th-fastest lap at Nurburgring's Nordschleife circuit with a time of 7 minutes, 22 seconds, putting it higher up the leader board than a handful of 600 -horsepower supercars like the Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari Enzo, and Pagani Zonda.

The Ford outpaced all three- and four-cylinder cars.

The racer was made to be street legal, with wheel covers, front and rear lights, signals, wing mirrors, road-legal tires and even a horn.

The specially tuned, 205-hp, 1.0-litre EcoBoost-powered Formula Ford has a 0-100 km/h time of less than four seconds, and still returns fuel economy numbers between 2.5 L/100 km and 5.1 L/100 km.
