2014 Fiat 500L Lounge

The all-new 2014 Fiat 500L expands the appeal of the iconic Cinquecento’s appeal with 42% more interior space, seating for five, enhanced driving dynamics, a 160-horsepower 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine and a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Wrapped in contemporary Italian design, the 500L, which will arrive in Canadian Fiat stores in June, has a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of CDN $19,995.

The Fiat 500L, which made its North-American debut at the Los Angeles auto show last fall, will appeal to customers who like the contemporary Italian style of the Fiat 500 but need more space and functionality to match their lifestyle needs, according to Jason Stoicevich, head of the Fiat Brand in North America.

"The Fiat 500L offers the whole package, with best-in-class interior space, class-leading horsepower, exclusive technology features and the style that only Italians can create," he proclaimed.

While the four-door 500L shares its nameplate and general styling theme with the Fiat 500 that came to Canada in 2011, it's based on an entirely different platform. Called "small-wide" internally, it's also the basis for the Fiat Grande Panda, Doblo and Alfa Romeo MiTo in Europe.

Consequently, the 500L is longer (by 660 mm), wider (by 152 mm), taller (by 152 mm) as well as substantially roomier, with accommodation for five. Fiat says it provides best-in-class headroom and front legroom.

Fiat 500L Pop

It's available in four models, beginning with the $19,995 Fiat 500L Pop, which features an extensive list of standard features.

That list includes: Koni frequency selective damping (FSD) front struts and rear shock absorbers, bi-halogen headlamps, 16-inch chrome-accented wheel covers, all-season tires, stainless-steel exhaust tip, black exterior mirrors with driver- and passenger-side spotter mirrors, air conditioning, power locks and windows with one-touch up/down feature, cruise control, body-colour instrument panel, six speakers, Electronic Vehicle Information Centre (EVIC) with trip computer, kilometres-to-empty, average fuel economy and tire-pressure monitoring (TPM) display, steering wheel controls, six-way cloth seats with driver and front-passenger height adjust, 60/40 split-fold rear seatbacks with fore-aft adjustment, recline and tumble/slide feature, tilt and telescoping steering column, 12-volt console and auxiliary power outlets, multi-position cargo area trunk panel, cap-less fuel-filler door, floor mats, interior observation mirror and dual sun visors with vanity mirrors.

It also includes Chrysler's Uconnect 5.0 with a 5-inch touchscreen display, radio voice commands, hands-free phone, Bluetooth with streaming audio, text message reader, personalization settings and media hub (USB and auxiliary ports) for seamless integration of portable devices.

Safety features include seven standard air bags, reactive front head restraints, vehicle theft security alarm, child seat anchor system and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Hill-start Assist.
