The much-awaited fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 – still known to many by its original North-Americans as the Miata – will finally be unveiled on September 3, 2014.
The global reveal will take place at Monterey, California, with simultaneous events occurring in Japan and Spain.
The all-new MX-5 is being jointly developed with Alfa-Romeo, which will offer its own variant of the iconic sports car. The core chassis architecture for the new cars was exposed at this year's New York International Auto Show in April, giving media and Miata fans a reference point for speculation on what form the new car will take.
In addition to the global unveil of the 2016 new model, it will be on display along with an array of heritage, concept and motorsports MX-5s at the enthusiast-organized Miatas at Mazda Raceway (Lagua Seca) event, which will be held on September 5-7. As part of the roadster's 25th anniversary celebrations, it promises to be one of the largest gatherings of MX-5 Miatas in North America.
Mazda will lead consumer discussion sessions covering history, motorsports, R&D and design at that event. Registration is free and the event is open to the public. More information is available at MiatasatMazdaRaceway.com.
