2017-18 Audi A3
Number of vehicles affected: 500
Details: During engine start-up or while driving at low RPM, the engine air/fuel burning stability strategy may not be robust enough, which could cause the system to misinterpret conditions and result in a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software.
2011-12 BMW X3, 2012-13 BMW 6 Series
Number of vehicles affected: 883
Details: The housing of the driver's airbag inflator may have been incorrectly welded during manufacturing and could separate from the base plate during deployment, which could result in metal fragments fired at vehicle occupants.
Correction: Dealers will replace the driver's airbag.
2018 BMW 4 Series
Number of vehicles affected: 3
Details: An incompatible mechanism within the Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) of one or both front seatbelts, which may prevent the seatbelt from locking, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant in a crash situation.
Correction: Dealers will replace both front seatbelt assemblies.
2017 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra
System: Owner’s manual
Number of vehicles affected: 2,123
Details: The owner’s manual may be missing instructions for using the child seat tether anchorages and child restraint anchorage systems in the vehicle.
Correction: Owners will be mailed owner’s manual inserts, while unsold vehicles, dealers will include the insert to the manual prior to sale.
2017 Chrysler Pacifica
Number of vehicles affected: 4
Details: On Vantage Mobility International wheelchair accessible vehicles, the left and right side rear axle pinion mounting brackets could prematurely crack, which could affect vehicle handling and stability if the vehicle is in motion, leading to loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Correction: Dealers will replace the left and right rear axle pinion brackets with redesigned, more-robust brackets.
2017 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger
Number of vehicles affected: 214
Details: The engine oil cooler line on the Hellcat engine could separate at the crimp of the hose to the aluminum tube, which could lead to a rapid loss of engine oil (with potential engine seizure) and potential spraying on the windshield (impairing visibility). This could lead to a crash situation and in the presence of an ignition source, it could also lead to an under-hood fire.
Correction: Dealers will replace the engine oil cooler lines.
2017 Ford Explorer, Ford Taurus, Police Interceptors
Number of vehicles affected: 9
Details: Steering gear heat shield fasteners may have been coated incorrectly, which could cause the heat shield to corrode and detach. This could expose the steering gear system to higher temperatures and could lead to overheating, which could result in a reduction of steering assist. A loss of power steering assist could unexpectedly increase steering effort, most noticeable at low speeds, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. In the event of a loss of steering assist, a service message would be displayed in the gear cluster.
Correction: Dealers will inspect the fasteners and replace as required.
2017 Ford Focus
Number of vehicles affected: 132
Details: From vehicle assembly, there may be an inadequate weld between the outboard pivot bracket and pivot nut of rear second row left side seatback. This could result in the seatback having reduced strength, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Correction: Dealers will inspect the seat back frame and replace, if necessary.
2015-17 Ford F-150 Crew Cab, 2017 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty Crew Cab
Number of vehicles affected: 15,715
Details: The left rear inflatable seatbelt buckle may have a rivet that was improperly staked during assembly, which may allow the left rear seatbelt assembly to separate from its mounting bracket in a crash, potentially resulting in injury.
Correction: Dealers will inspect the left rear seatbelt buckle rivet, and replace the seatbelt buckle assembly, if necessary.
2017 Ford F-150, Ford Mustang
Number of vehicles affected: 279
Details: Passenger side front airbag inflator could be over pressurized during deployment due to a potential airflow restriction or blockage in the inflator module, which could prevent proper deployment of the passenger frontal airbag, or may cause the inflator to rupture during deployment causing fragments to be shot at vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury.
Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag module.
2017 Jeep Renegade
System: Trouble lights
Number of vehicles affected: 87
Details: An Instrument Panel Control (IPC) software error may cause multiple malfunction indicator lights to illuminate when no malfunction or indicated vehicle condition is present. This issue may occur when the fuel indicator is reading “Low Range” fuel and having that light illuminated may mask a truly active trouble light and result in the driver not being aware of actual malfunctions which could affect vehicle performance and increase the risk of a crash.
Correction: Dealers will update the IPC software.
2018 Kia Rio
Number of vehicles affected: 1,713
Details: The compliance label may have a printing error within the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) information, incorrectly stating “840 0 kg” instead of the correct “840 kg.”
Correction: Because it’s deemed a non-safety issue, dealers will use a black paint pen to cover over the additional zero on the label, while new vehicles will benefit from a production change to affix an correct label.
2016-17 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class
Number of vehicles affected: 2,775
Details: The engine control unit may be out of spec, which could result in the engine shutting down as the brakes are applied just prior to stopping the vehicle, and/or with a high engine load when not enough pressure is applied to the accelerator following an ECO start. An unintentional engine shut-down could increase the risk of a crash in certain conditions.
Correction: Dealers will update the engine and transmission control unit software.
2014-17 Nissan Sentra
Number of vehicles affected: 214
Details: The passenger front airbag may not deploy correctly due to insufficient compression strength of the coolant within the inflator housing (as a result of long-term storage), which may cause the airbag to fail to deploy properly in the event of a crash, leading to increased risk of injury.
Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger front airbag inflator.
2016 Smart Fortwo
Number of vehicles affected: 6
Details: On cars equipped with the double clutch transmission, the actuation lock inside the gearshift lever module may not function as designed, allowing the gearshift lever to move out of "PARK" without the usual requirements of having to step on the brake pedal and the ignition being in the "ON" position. If the parking brake is not applied, unintended vehicle movement could occur, which would increase the risk of a crash.
Correction: Dealers will update the transmission control unit software.
2006-10 Volkswagen Passat, 2009-16 Volkswagen CC
Number of vehicles affected: 19,508
Details: An interruption in electrical power supplied to the fuel pump control module could result in the fuel pump running continuously, which might drain the car battery and/or result in a no start condition, or cause a loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel pump control module and relocate it.
