The list of potential Ford GT buyers is paring down to final 500 who will actually get one.
It started with nearly 200,000 people visiting the virtual car configurator at www.FordGT.com, where they could build their dream cars. The default exterior colour of the configurator is Frozen White, which turned out to be the favourite configured exterior colour, followed by Liquid Blue.
From there, more than 10,800 from around the world showed actual interest in obtaining one of the 500 carbon fibre bodied supercars in the 1-month window for online applications, and 6,506 completed said applications to potentially own one.
The demand peaked in the final week for applications, when 2,082 (about one third of the final total) were filed.
“We’re excited by the amount of enthusiasm fans are showing for the new Ford GT,” says Dave Pericak, director, Global Ford Performance. “This initial application window is just one of many ways fans and potential owners will have to connect with our all-new supercar even before it hits the streets.”
Ford will review applications and notify successful applicants within 90 days, so those who will have a chance to purchase the new GT will know by the beginning of August, with deliveries expected to begin by the end of the year. The car is being built for Ford by Multimatic, in Markham, Ontario.
In a move reminiscent of the TV show Survivor, creativity in the application process worked in favour of the successful applicant. Hundreds of visitors reportedly submitted videos with their applications, featuring children, life stories, garage tours, racing footage and other lighting and audio effects.
And although the initial application window is now closed, GT aficionados can continue to build and their dream GT through the FordGT.com website, and share it through social media.
