Honda's Acura division has confirmed plans to unveil a prototype of its next-generation MDX sport utility vehicle during media preview days for the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), in Detroit on January 14-15.

The company says the new vehicle reflects the brand's "Aero Sculpture" design language, which affects both form and function.

The resultant 2014 MDX Prototype features alluring proportions with smooth, arching body lines matched to an efficient architecture, according to Honda Canada.

The accompanying design sketch shows knife-edge fender lines, sculpted side panels and exaggerated wheel arches that are much more dynamic than the current MDX.
