Adventure drive of a lifetime along Norway's fjords

Rally named after character from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Adventurers looking for a once-in-a-lifetime drive may want to consider a unique rally event from The Hague in the Netherlands, to the near northern tip of Norway at Kirkenes, and then back down visiting the fjords.

Bespoke Rallies, a company that specializes in organizing and staging unique classic car long-distance rallies around the world, has unveiled its latest offering — the Slartibartfast, named after the fictional designer of planets in Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, who is an award-winning coastline designer (for Norway, of course) and loves the “lovely baroque feel” fjords give a continent.

The inaugural Slartibartfast is a 2-week adventure (Aug. 23 to Sept. 7, 2017) starting from the renowned Louwman Museum of historic vehicles in The Hague, then working its way up through Denmark, Sweden and Finland on a 3,000-km journey to Kirkenes.

There, rallyists board the 35-car Hurtigruten ferry MS Midnatsol to cruise and drive the western and norther coasts of Norway. Nights are spent aboard the ship, and in the morning cars disembark for a picturesque stage and evening rendezvous with the Midnatsol for another night’s sail to the next rally stage. The Hurtigruten company was founded over 125 years ago to ferry passengers between the northern port of Kirkenes and the southern port of Bergen, which is where the Slartibartfast will finish.

“This is a completely unique event that will allow participants to enjoy Scandinavia in a way they would never have imagined possible,” said Bespoke Rallies Director John Brigden. “The final drive will comprise a blast along the famous Atlantic Road – unquestionably one of the world’s most incredible motoring experiences.”

Bespoke Rallies has also announced plans for other adventure rallies around the world, including the Cuba Classic Rally (January 2018), Maya Classic Rally (February 2018), Highland 1000 (May 2018), Pyrenees 1000 (September 2018), Grand Prix of South America (October 2018), Wild Borneo (May 2019) and Magical Madagascar (June 2019).
