Luxury makers have stepped up over the past 10 years with partnerships to expand their reach among the wealthy and influential and the latest venture sees Aston Martin Lagonda partnering with Airbus on a helicopter.
The stylish ACH130 Aston Martin Edition offers up a range of four interior and exterior choices developed by Aston Martin. Aeronautical designers at Airbus Corporate Helicopters (ACH) and automotive designers at Aston Martin worked together over the past year to create a product with ACH’s values of excellence, quality and service with Aston Martin’s commitment to beauty, handcrafting and automotive art.
For Aston Martin, that meant a Stirling Green exterior theme on the launch edition, matched to a complimentary interior featuring signature Aston Martin cues, such as the iconic wings throughout the cabin, including the embossing on the leather seats’ headrests.
“We have our own set of automotive design principles but in recent years we have been learning how to apply our principles to other areas of design, such as architecture, motorcycles and now helicopters,” said Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Vice President and Chief Creative Officer. “This first application of our design practices to a helicopter posed a number of interesting challenges but we have enjoyed working through them. Beauty is of vital importance to Aston Martin and to our customers and we think the ACH130 Aston Martin Edition is an inherently beautiful machine. It provided a wonderful canvas for our team to work on.”
The exterior fades from green to Jet Black on the undercarriage, with Skyfall Silver around the cowlings. Other liveries will come in other Aston Martin paints, such as Xenon Grey, Arizona and Ultramarine Black. Interiors will come in Pure Black ultra suede, highlighted in a selection of leathers in Oxford Tan, Pure Black, Cormorant and Ivory.
The interiors would be right at home in an Aston Martin sports car, including the palette of materials and details straight out of the down-to-earth models. All interiors will feature an instrument panel plaque with each company’s logo, edition number and the owner’s name (if desired).
“The ACH130 Aston Martin Edition is optimally positioned in the market for hands-on owners who draw satisfaction from personally piloting their aircraft and it generates strong brand-loyalty,” said Frédéric Lemos, Head of Airbus Corporate Helicopters. “In the same way Aston Martin’s products are cars for drivers who relish being at the wheel and they inspire a comparable attachment to the brand.”
Orders are being accepted now, with deliveries scheduled to start in winter 2020.
