Audi is expanding its flagship A8 sedan line with a sportier version of the long-wheelbase premium luxury car.
Under the hood of the new Audi A8 L 4.0T Sport beats an enhanced twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 that puts out 450 hp (up 15 from the previous model) and 444 lb.ft. of torque (peaking at just 1500 rpm).
And to provide the gutsy V8 with the necessary air to produce that power (while allowing it to cool itself better), the new car features a larger openings in the redesigned, and more muscular, front fascia. The front bumper has been lowered to present a more racy face, while the rear one is redone for a more dynamic appearance. Around the sides, 20-inch wheels fill out the wheel wells for a powerful stance (optional 21-inch wheels are even more impressive), while the rocker panels have been reshaped to provide a more muscular look.
And where the exterior looks built for speed, the interior looks built for comfort, with 22-way Comfort front seats upholstered in Valcona leather done up in luxurious diamond-pattern stitching. The front seats also include massaging and ventilation features and overhead, a panoramic sunroof is surrounded with Alcantara adding another degree of sumptuousness.
The driver has the added convenience of head up display, while other driving aids include adaptive cruise control that can take the car right down to standstill and get it going again without the driver needing to intervene. Side assist with pre-sense rear doesn’t just alert the driver to other vehicles in the blind spot but also monitors traffic behind the car.
The Audi A8 L 4.0T Sport is priced from $90,500 (U.S.). Audi Canada has not yet confirmed when the car will arrive in Canada but it will not use the Sport moniker. No MSRP has yet been announced, but we expect it to be in the $95,000 range.
