BMW introduced its second-generation X6 for the 2015 model year to join the 250,000 X6s already out there on global roads. This generation gets a RWD version in the lineup for the first time with the sDrive 35i. BMW's award-winning 300hp TwinPower Turbo inline six will power it. AWD iterations, the xDrive 35i and xDrive 50i will feature an updated 445-hp TwinPower Turbo 4.4-litre V8. All get the company's eight-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission. The new lineup will be built in Spartanburg, South Caroline, and appear late in the year with pricing yet to be announced.
The new lineup makes it easier than ever for buyers to personalize their rides, with six available colours for the standard Dakota leather trim including new Cognac and Coral Red. Standard is BMW's nav system with touchpad controller, Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system and rear entertainment system. All get standard 19-inch light-alloy wheels, with additional 19-inch and 20-inch light-alloys available.
Rearseat backrests can be split/folded 40:20:40 to increase cargo capacity from 20.5 cut. ft. up to 53.9 cu. ft. A power tailgate is standard, open and close-able by the touch of a button on the dashboard; hands-free opening and closing via sensor that detect foot movements under the rear apron that prompt the electronic tailgate into action are is standard on xDrive50i and option on sDrive 35i and xDrive 35i.
An xLine trim gives particularly keen buyers a chance to stand out with model-specific design that includes optical underbody protection elements in stainless steel for the front and rear apron, illuminated door sills and footplates, kidney grille bars with distinctive geometry, bespoke inserts and bars for the air intakes, distinctive fender and tailgate trim and exterior mirror caps. 20-inch light alloy wheels with a V-spoke design are also trim-exclusive. Various Interior Design Packages are available.
M Sport is available for all models in the lineup.
