Cars and Coffee comes to the Cobble Beach Concours

New event expands the scope of Canada’s prestigious classic car weekend

Nothing exemplifies the '50s better than the 1959 Cadillac, which boasted the highest fins of any car.

‘Cars & Coffee’ events originated, at least in name, with a Saturday-morning meet-up of car enthusiasts in Irvine, California, back in 2006. Now they’ve become a world-wide phenomenon.

Similar in concept to traditional hot-rodders’ cruise-ins, they tend to be more formal in organization, and typically attract more classic and exotic cars, along with the traditional muscle and collector car fare.

A new addition to the ‘Cars & Coffee’ culture in Canada is ‘Cars & Coffee at Cobble Beach’, presented by Segal Motorcar, which will take place on Saturday, September 16th, as part of the ‘Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance’ weekend.

Unlike Sunday’s main event, which is limited to a select group of cars with unique historical significance, Saturday’s Cars & Coffee event will feature a diverse group of vehicles that celebrate the automotive enthusiast’s passion.

Owners of beautiful collectible and exotic vehicles will have a chance to gather with like-minded enthusiasts and their cars for a cup or two of coffee on the driving range and tee-boxes of the beautiful Cobble Beach Golf Resort.

As many as 150 cars are expected to take part in the Cars & Coffee event, which will take place from 10:00 A.M to 2:00 P.M. It will be open to vehicles 25 years and older, as well as newer models that are unique, exotic, have obvious modifications, or are otherwise unusual and not normally seen.

“The local car clubs have been very enthusiastic as supporters of and volunteers at the Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance. We wanted to find a way to further involve them and their cars in our event,” said Rob McLeese, founder and chair of the Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

There will be a $10 entry fee for participants, who must pre-register at cobblebeachconcours.com/cars-coffee. Spectator admission will be free. Proceeds from the event will support of the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation.

This additional event will not interfere with the annual Concours’ Participants Tour of the Grey/Bruce region, which will depart the grounds before Cars & Coffee begins, and there will continue to be a display of car club vehicles beside the vendor market.

The Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance itself opens to the public at 9:00 AM on Sunday, September 17. Further information can be found at cobblebeachconcours.com.
