If you’ve ever played with a Hot Wheels track and wished you could own a full-sized version of the sporty little die-cast models, Chevrolet has the answer for you — a Hot Wheels Camaro, which it is showing off at 2017 SEMA.

Camaro is not new to the Hot Wheels lineup. The pony car was the first ever Hot Wheels model in 1968 — a dark blue Custom Camaro — as part of The Original Sweet 16, as the first series has come to be known. Over the years, it has been offered in various colours, including two “rare” collectibles in Gold and Creamy Pink.

Now, Chevrolet and Hot Wheels have partnered up on the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition, to commemorate that first ever Hot Wheels model, and the 50 years since of partnership, design and performance innovation.

Meant as a rival to Matchbox, Hot Wheels raised the toy-car-performance bar with wide wheels and low-friction axles to make them the fastest toy cars on the track or off it.

“In the 1960s, Hot Wheels and Camaro challenged vehicle design by elevating the speed, power and performance of both die-cast and pony cars alike,” said Chris Down, Hot Wheels’ senior vice president and Global Brand general manager. “For 50 years, both brands have developed high-performance cars that embody the challenger spirit. We’re thrilled that fans can now experience the essence of Hot Wheels in this special edition Camaro.”

To go on sale in the first quarter of 2018, the commemorative package is available on 2LT and 2SS coupes and convertibles, and features a Crush exterior colour, and stripes that mimic the orange Hot Wheels tracks.

“The Chevrolet Performance design studio is full of designers who were inspired by Hot Wheels,” said Tom Peters, director of Exterior Design for Chevrolet Performance Cars. “The Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition captures that passion, turning childhood fantasy into reality.”

The package includes Satin Graphite stripes with Silver Ice Metallic accents, Satin Graphite ground effects and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with unique centres, orange calipers, performance tires, unique grille with chrome inserts, black taillamp panel with Hot Wheels emblem, black Chevrolet bowties, Jet Black leather interior with orange seat inserts and accent stitching, orange belts and door pads, illuminated door sills, premium carpet mats with orange stitching and ghost stripes, and 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels badges inside and out.
