Automotive News via reports that Chrysler has patented an improvement to its segment-defining Stow 'n Go seats that would allow them to collapse into less space.

The improved design would mean that the seats would still fold handily into the floor, but there would no longer be a need to move the front seats fully forward, which is about the only inconvenience the current design overlooks. A two-piece flat floor is partly hinged to the floor and partly to the seatback, instead of the one-hinge cover design that currently joins the cover to the floor only. Automotive News reports that a spokesperson from the manufacturer declined comment, including whether the new design would make it into 2015 Town & Country or Dodge Grand Caravan models.

The seat design was upgraded in 2008 after its 2005 launch.
