Dodge has finally gotten around to adding the Blacktop Appearance Package to the Durango sport utility vehicle, completing the make-over of the Dodge stable.

Adding unique gloss black aluminum wheels (20 inches in diameter on Durango), side mirrors, exterior badging and grille, black headlamp bezels, dual rear exhaust and five paint schemes with body-colour fascia and mouldings, Blackout is available as an option package on SXT, Limited and R/T trims.

The package adds HID headlights and LED driving lights to the Limited trim level.

“The rear-wheel-drive based Dodge Durango stands out as the Charger of the three-row SUV segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO -Dodge Brand and SRT Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Now with Blacktop Package, customers can make it even more unique, and it's customized by the factory.”

Due in dealerships in October 2014, the new seven-occupant Durango will feature a new 8-speed automatic transmission (with paddle shifters), LED exterior lighting, a wraparound full-width LED taillamp, programmable instrument cluster and an available dual-screen Blu-ray entertainment system, among other standards and options.

Power comes from either the 295-hp Pentastar 3.6-litre V6(offering up 260 lb.ft. of torque for a tow-rating of 6,200 lbs.) or the 360-hp 5.7-litre Hemi V8 (with its 390 lb.ft. of torque and 7,400 lb. tow-rating). The latter’s cylinder deactivation system grants it fuel-economy ratings almost equal to those of the former.

The Blacktop Appearance Package is available in Billet Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal and Redline Red.
