Fiat Chrysler is recalling about 700,000 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees to address an electrical problem.
Affecting sport utilities from model years 2011 through 2013, the issue stems from the dealership discovery of silicon deposits on the contact points of certain fuel pump relays, which could interrupt the flow of electrical current and result in the engine starting up or contribute to an engine stall. The company is not aware of any incidents related to the problem.
The recall affects a total of 698,021 vehicles — 528,594 in the US, 34,764 in Canada, 18,152 in Mexico and 116,511 outside North America. Some of the affected vehicles may have been recalled previously to address a similar problem.
The company has not settled on a repair timeline and will contact customers to schedule service. Customers with questions or concerns can contact (800) 853-1403.
