Just about the only thing needed for an authentic historic-car-owning experience is a set of the tools that mechanics used to work on those old cars, and now Jaguar Classic is obliging with a reproduction of the original E-type toolkit.
Just in time for the gift-giving season, the original Jaguar E-type owner’s toolkit comes in a period-correct leatherette-covered canvas roll owners can store in their trunks for quick routine repairs out on the road, offering the finishing touch for collectors’ vintage sports cars.
The kit was offered with every purchase of Series 1 and Series 2 Jaguar E-types, and hasn’t been available since the last E-type was produced nearly 50 years ago, in 1971. Original toolkits are available from past owners for as much as £5,000 (about $8,500 Canadian), but Jaguar Classic Parts is selling the new authentic toolkit for £732 (about $1,240).
“The original E-type toolkit has become a collector’s item thanks to its rarity and historic appeal,” said Dan Pink, Director of Jaguar Classic. “We’ve had customers across the world contact us about obtaining one, which is why we decided to manufacture the toolkits again to their original specification.”
Recreated from historic engineering records, to ensure authenticity, the new toolkit comes in a heavy-duty leatherette/canvas tool roll and features vital maintenance pieces, including a valve-timing gauge and a grease gun. The pieces have been tested to Jaguar Classic’s production standards and come with a manufacturer’s aftermarket parts and accessories warranty.
The kit also includes four Imperial measure wrenches, an adjustable wrench, tire pressure gauge and tire-valve key, feeler gauge, spark plug socket, screwdriver, pliers, handbrake adjusting tool and a brake-bleed tube and tin.
It is available for purchase online from the Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts shop that provides access to more than 50,000 genuine classic parts and accessories for classic Jaguar and Land Rover models (including body panels and retro-looking infotainment systems).
