TORONTO – Ram is reviving one of its popular pickup packages from the 1970s with the introduction of the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock. This latest addition to the Ram lineup, which made its North American debut during the media preview day at the Canadian International AutoShow, combines options and equipment in a package reminiscent of a factory-customized model Dodge pitched in 1976 to attract young buyers.
That first production Warlock was introduced in response to positive feedback to a slick concept truck Dodge was showing on the auto show circuit. The production version featured bucket seats, fancy wheels, fat tires, chrome-plated running boards, real oak sideboards and special gold accent stripes inside and out. Advertising billed that Warlock as a factory-personalized pickup that could play as hard as it worked. The Warlock production run continued until 1979.
The 2019 Warlock is based on Ram 1500 Classic SLT trim and features a black grille sourced from the Ram Rebel with bold R-A-M lettering, 20-inch semi-gloss black aluminum wheels, front and rear powder-coated bumpers, a 2.5-centimetre lift in ride height, black wheel flares, LED fog lamps, projector headlamps with dark bezels, LED rear tail lamps, black badging, tow hooks, unique hood decals, Warlock decals on the bedsides, heavy duty rear shocks and an optional Sport hood.
Inside the Warlock’s cab, standard equipment includes grey cloth seating, ParkSense rear park assist and the Ram 1500 Classic’s Luxury Group, which adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, overhead console and 7.0-inch cluster display, plus LED bed lighting and power foldaway mirrors. Heated bench or bucket seats, an 8.4-inch UConnect touchscreen with navigation, black side steps and a spray-in bedliner are available as options.
The Warlock can be configured as a 4x4 Quad Cab with the 6-foot-4-inch cargo box or as a Crew Cab 4x4 with the 5-7 cargo box.
The Warlock’s power can be supplied by a Pentastar 3.6-litre V-6, with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, or the 5.7-litre Hemi V-8, which generates 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing starts at $51,715 when fitted with the V-6 and $53,615 with the Hemi V-8. As with all gas-powered Ram trucks, the Warlock comes with a 5-year, 100,000-km powertrain warranty.
“The Ram Classic 1500 Warlock is proof positive that value never goes out of style,” said FCA Canada’s president and CEO, Reid Bigland. “With its sinister monochromatic exterior, award winning interior and great price, this mean machine is certain to resonate.”
The Warlock, which goes on sale at the end of the first quarter of 2019, will be produced at the truck assembly plant in Warren, Michigan.
