Ford adds back seat to Shelby GT350R

Aftermarket installation turns track-dominant Mustang into 4-seater

Ford Performance Parts rear seat for Shelby GT350R

Have you ever wished you could take along more than one friend for a spin in your Shelby GT350R — fuel may be cheaper these days but having to do three laps of the winding lake road takes its toll on the wallet.

Well, Ford is making your wishes come true with the development of a back seat aftermarket kit to turn the world’s most track-capable Mustang into the world’s most performance oriented four-seat Mustang on the road.

“We always listen to customer feedback,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “So when many requested a back seat for their GT350Rs, we acted quickly to make it available.”

Available through the Ford Performance Parts catalog, the kit matches the existing GT350R interior, with the same Alcantara upholstery stitched together in contrasting red. And, naturally, it includes fitting in a restraint system, again integrated to make it look like it came like that off the line.

The cost is $999 U.S. (roughly $1,425 Canadian at today’s exchange rate), with the company recommending installation at a Ford dealership to ensure safety systems are properly installed.
