Ford is again responding to the needs of enforcement agencies with the world’s first Responder police vehicle.
Based on the 2018 Ford F-150 FX4, the F-150 Police Responder is a purpose-built law-enforcement vehicle that also happens to be the first pursuit-rated pickup. Performance rated at speeds up to 160 km/h, the Responder rides on 18-inch wheels shod with all terrain tires (so it can handle both on-road and off-road situations), is equipped with police calibrated braking system (upgraded callipers and brake-pad material) and upgraded front stabilizer to improve handling, and features the largest-ever interior volume in a pursuit vehicle, with best-in-class front and rear shoulder and hip room.
Power is supplied by a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V-6 that puts out 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, channelling that to all four wheels via a 10-speed paddle-shift automatic, giving it best-in-class payload and towing capacity.
“Ford’s 2018 F-150 Police Responder is the perfect all-terrain law enforcement vehicle,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford’s police brand marketing manager. “Aside from its industry-first on-road pursuit capability, this purpose-built pickup can comfortably seat five, while providing capability in off-road patrol situations for officers in rural environments patrolled by sheriff’s departments, border patrol operations and the Department of Natural Resources.”
The 5-seat interior features a column shifter, heavy-duty cloth seats up front (with slim bolsters and anti-stab back plates), and a vinyl rear seating area (upholstery and mats) for easy clean-up. O-n-board electrical devices are easily adopted thanks to the inclusion of a high-output 240-amp alternator. Engine calibrated speedometer and engine-hour and idle meters are also on board.
The F-150 Police Responder joins a lineup of law enforcement vehicles that also includes the Police Responder Hybrid Sedan, Police Interceptor Sedan and Utility, Special Service F-150 and Expedition, Special Service Police Sedan, and Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle.
