Focus ST buyers who find their cars just a little underpowered can boost the performance right from their Ford dealerships with a new Mountune upgrade kit that adds 23 horsepower and 26 lb.ft. of torque.
The Ford Performance Mountune Focus ST kit for 2015 delivers all the performance upgrades from an aftermarket installation, with the difference that when installed at a Ford dealership, the car retains its factory warranty. In that way, customers are not choosing between performance and reliability.
“The 2015 Focus ST MP275 upgrade is the latest addition to Ford Performance’s vast Focus and Fiesta performance catalog that gives enthusiasts the components they need to take their cars to the next level,” said Adam Gair, product manager, Ford Performance.
Sold through Ford Performance Parts, the MP275 upgrade takes horsepower to 275 and flirts with the 300 threshold for torque, coming in at 296 (the standard Focus ST Ecoboost engine delivers 252 and 270, respectively). That may be considered ridiculous for a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, even a turbocharged one, and it should be noted that those power outputs are returned when the car is filled with 93-octane fuel.
The boost in power is a result of a performance ECU that plays with the engine mapping, including a quicker throttle response, yet is reported to not compromise durability. It is not yet known how far fuel economy deviates from the standard 2.0L’s 8.9 litres per 100km, combined.
The upgrade kit also includes an induction kit, high-flow intercooler and air filter, and mTune handset, all made by Mountune. It can also include an air filter end cap to control sound and provide protection in harsh conditions.
