Mustang Monopoly token

Perhaps one of the biggest decisions Monopoly players make is what token to choose at the beginning of the game — the Top Hat, the Puppy, the Thimble, the Race Car … wait. If the race car isn’t prominent enough to show how speed is important to you, there’s a new token available … a Ford Mustang.

For Mustang, it’s just the latest product placement in a long history of pop culture appearances that have transcended film, television and music.

The Mustang is a piece in the latest spinoff from Hasbro’s Monopoly franchise, Monopoly Empire, which not ironically, deals with multibillion dollar global franchises as the properties acquired by players as they race around the board. In this game the desired acquisitions include Coca-Cola, Beats by Dre, Spotify, Fender, JetBlue and, naturally, Hasbro.

Perhaps of greater interest is that it seems Ford and the Mustang have displaced Chevrolet and the Corvette. And, Ford has been placed in a more prominent position that what Chev occupied. Ford takes up one of the “yellow” properties, with a value of 300,000 Monopoly dollars. Chevrolet occupied one of the “red” squares with a value of 250k.

Other tokens in the Monopoly Empire game include a Ducati motorcycle, a Coke bottle, an X-Box game handset, a Paramount Studios clapperboard and a McDonald’s fries’ box.
