Ford is taking a Grimm view on off-road Ranger drivers who may set off forging their own trails and then find themselves unable to find their way back to civilization, providing them with a breadcrumb feature to mark their trails.

Enabled at the push of a button, the breadcrumbs feature works in the background to drop a virtual pin every second the vehicle is out on the trail, allowing the driver to simply follow the “crumbs” when it’s time to return to the pavement.
Based on satellite technology, the Satnav Breadcrumbs feature is included in the Ford Ranger XLT and Lariat trim levels, as well as any other truck equipped with Sync 3 and navigation.
The feature is especially useful where there are no chartered trails, simply laying down a trail over the navigation display that can be used by tracing the trail in reverse, negating the need for vehicle occupants to keep track of trail markers or landmarks. And unlike the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel, birds won’t be able to eat the crumbs and make the vehicle lose its way.
