Ford is recalling its new 2019 Ranger midsized pickup for a transmission interlock issue that could allow the transmission to shift out of the Park position without the built-in failsafes.

The issue affects about 3,500 pickups, 500 of which are in Canada. In affected vehicles, the PRNDL bezel wiring may interfere with the shifter interlock override, which would prevent the shifter from locking in the park position and would allow the lever to shift out of Park with the ignition off and without the brake pedal having to be depressed before shifting.

Ford is not aware of any incidents related to the issue but is asking dealers to check the interlock functionality and relocate the wiring if there is evidence of interference.
