According to reports originating in Korea, Hyundai plans to drop the base-level, 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from its 2015 Genesis Coupe.

The currently optional 3.6-litre V-6 engine will become both standard equipment and the only engine available.

The move is seen as a step towards moving the Coupe up-market in preparation for the introduction of an all-new model for 2016. That car is expected to be based on the HND-9 Concept introduced earlier this year at the Seoul Motor Show.

Hyundai says trim level package content will be adjusted on the 2015 model to ease the price transition from the current four to the new V-6 models.

The Genesis Coupe was introduced in 2008 and received a mild mid-cycle refresh for 2013. It competes, on some levels, with the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.
