In June, General Motors announced that customers for new 2014 models in the U.S. would be covered by a new no-charge maintenance program for two years or 24,000 miles (38,600 km).
At that time, a GM Canada spokesperson confirmed to us that the initiative was limited to the U.S. market only, but he left the door open for a change in that status in the future.
That time has now come.
And, in one respect at least, we get an even better deal than our southern neighbors do. While the Canadian program is also limited to two years, it's good for up to 40,000 km – whichever comes first, of course.
GM Canada says the new new Two-Year Scheduled Lube-Oil-Filter (LOF) Maintenance Program will be included with the purchase or lease of all new 2014 model year Chevrolet, Buick and GMC vehicles.
Canadian Cadillac customers also benefit from a no-charge Premium Care Maintenance program.
The new program will provide owners with up to four LOF services at no additional charge, within the two-years/40,000 km limitation.
"This new program is our opportunity to provide all of our new vehicle customers with exceptional service experiences and continue to build a trusting, loyal relationships," said David Bakos, general director, customer care and aftersales at GM Canada.
It's also a way to keep customers coming back to the dealership and thus increasing the probability they'll continue to patronize both the store and the brand.
"We know that customers who service their vehicles at our dealerships are much more likely to purchase another GM product down the road," explained Dan Akerson, GM's chairman and CEO, when he announced the U.S. plan at GM’s 2013 annual stockholders' meeting.
GM Canada already provides Canadian customers with a 5-year /160,000 km Powertrain Component Warranty with Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation, standard on all models.
