DETROIT, MI - The Volkswagen Golf and Ford F-150 pickup were named the 2015 North American Car and Truck of the Year respectively at a ceremony this morning at the opening of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Mustang beat out the Hyundai Genesis and Volkswagen Golf for the top car honours while the F-150 topped the Lincoln MKC, Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Colorado for the truck title.
Those six finalists were selected earlier from shortlists of 10 cars and 12 trucks/utility vehicles by a jury of 57 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada.
The Golf, which was available in other markets before arriving in North America this year, won the World Car of the Year award in 2013. And the Genesis, Golf and F-150 were each category winners in the AJAC Canadian Car of the Year competition and are now eligible for the overall car or truck/utility awards in Canada. The winners of those awards will be revealed at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto on February 12, 2015.
The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was the 2014 North American Car of the Year and the Chevrolet Silverado was the North American Truck of the Year
