Hyundai ranked tops in Total Value

Hyundai Equus was the Luxury class leader and had the highest overall score

Strategic Vision, a U.S.-based research firm, has pronounced Hyundai as the top ranking automotive brand in its 18th annual Total Value Index (TVI) study.

It was Hyundai's first time at the top of the TVI rankings. The Hyundai Equus was the Luxury Car class leader and it had the highest TVI score in the industry.

Other Hyundai segment winners included the Sonata, Genesis Coupe and Elantra.

North-American automakers accounted for the most Total Value segment leaders with both Chevrolet and Ford each earning four class victories.

Chevrolet took class honours with the Spark, Cruze, Volt and Traverse, and Ford with the Fiesta Sedan, Fusion, Focus Hatchback, Taurus, Explorer and Lincoln Navigator.

Toyota had four class wins with the Prius c, Scion FR-S, FJ Cruiser and Tacoma.

The Total Value Index was based on Strategic Vision's study of almost 46,000 new car buyers (in the U.S.) who purchased 2013 models during the September 2012 to March 2013 period.

It examined the quality of the buyer's complete ownership experience and addressed the customer's assessment of economic consequences from two perspectives:

> Immediate – total down payment including drive-off costs, warranty costs, special incentive programs, etc.

> Expected – based on expected reliability, durability, resale value, Durability,fuel consumption, etc.

The top-ranked vehicles in Total Value in their segments as rated by new vehicle buyers in Strategic Value's study, with their scores, were:
