Infiniti won't pull the wraps off its Q60 Concept coupe until the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next week, but it has released a photo and some details in advance of that debut.

The company says the Q60 represents the concept for a future sports coupe that is likely to compete with such players as the BMW 6 Series, Lexus RC and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe.

The concept is said to draw design cues from the latest Infiniti production models and Formula One as well as the Q80 Inspiration concept that debuted last October at the Paris Motor Show.

Aerodynamic gills behind the front wheel arches are transposed from the Q50 Eau Rouge sports sedan concept. Handmade quilted leather seats, Alcantara, and carbon fibre details highlight the bespoke “2 2” interior.

“The Q80 Inspiration was an indication of Infiniti’s future design language,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director. “The Q60 Concept is the next step in the journey.
