Among the many concept cars making their debut at the Paris auto show next week will be a sleek new four-door sedan from Infiniti that previews a new top-of-the-line luxury model for the brand.

The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration four-seat fastback is described as both audacious and elegant, a design intended to shake up the status quo in the ultra premium, five-metre-plus sedan class.

"After showing Q30 Concept and Q50 Eau Rouge, Infiniti is eager to show the upper range of our portfolio expansion," said Infiniti executive design director, Alfonso Albaisa. "In Q80 Inspiration, we wanted to capture that unforgettable feeling when you experience something important, something beautiful, something magnetic for the first time."

Emphasizing the smooth lines of its extended profile, the Q80 does away with side-door mirrors that could interrupt visual aesthetic flow. The full length of its teardrop greenhouse is accentuated by lightweight acoustic glass.

All four doors open portal style so drivers and passengers can step in and out with ease, while also showing off its luxurious interior, featuring four individual seats surrounded by carbon fibre, aluminum and leather.

Details of the car's high-performance hybrid-electric powertrain and other advanced technologies will be revealed with the car in Paris on October 2.

Infiniti calls the Q80 Inspiration a

design and technological highlight to which its worldwide design studios will refer regularly in coming years – and a statement of the brand's clear intent to join the ranks of the premium fastback segment in the near future.
