Infiniti has unveiled its full-size luxury QX80 sport utility vehicle at the Dubai International Motor Show, in the market where it will be most appreciated for its price, level of equipment and ability to handle whatever road or lack-thereof.
The SUV is destined for Middle East and North American markets, and some Eastern European countries, but will not be sold in the “west” of Europe.
The mammoth SUV takes Infiniti’s “Power Elegance” design language to new heights, with a bold new styling direction that creates vigorous, contemporary and commanding presence. The bold exterior is matched by a modern interior that combines luxury and high-tech to create a relaxing ambience.
“The new INFINITI QX80 has been designed and engineered to allow customers to travel everywhere in luxury,” said Christian Meunier, Infiniti Global Division Vice President. “Our flagship SUV features a high-quality, hand-crafted interior, creating a driver-centric, passenger-minded space for inclusive, modern luxury travel.”
The interior design direction is one of high quality (evidenced in the natural and manufactured materials), hand-crafted finishes and advanced systems (such as the comprehensive suite of drive-assist technologies).
Power is supplied by a 400-hp 5.6-litre V-8 and distributed by a 7-speed paddle shift automatic to all four wheels (a dial on the centre console between the front seats allows the driver to adjust the drivetrain to conditions). Fuel economy is rated at 12.2 l/100km on the highway, 17.4 l/100km in the city, and 15.1 l/100km combined.
Ride and handling is entrusted to a fully-independent double wishbone suspension that keeps the cabin serene over a variety of surface conditions. The rear features a load-levelling system to keep the SUV manageable even with a full load (up to 2,693 litres of interior cargo, depending on seating configurations, and towing up to 3,855 kg).
