So you’ve finally found your way for a lap around the Nürburgring Nordschleife only to discover you’re forgotten your licence? What do you do? Why not hail a taxi for a quick lap?
Through November, Jaguar is offering 1-lap rides of the famed race circuit aboard an F-Type SVR or an XJR575, with a professional driver at the wheel (so you don’t have to worry about getting a New York cabbie …). And the company will even present you with a commemorative in-car video of your lap, so you can see yourself holding on for dear life on those 1.2g-corners.
Billed as the Jaguar Race Taxi experience, customers can book the fast ride around the 20.83-km, 73-turn Green Hell in advance of a trip to Germany (at www.jaguar.de/jaguar-live/race-taxi-english-booking.html) or just show up at the track (don’t know if Jaguar has erected a Taxi Stand …), at a cost of €199 (about $305 Canadian) per lap. Each session takes about 30 minutes, including a safety briefing.
The fee is the same for a lap in an F-Type SVR (one passenger) or an XJR575 (up to three passengers), with the requirement that passengers be at least 18 years old.
“A ride in the F-TYPE SVR and XJR575 Race Taxi is a thrilling and truly unforgettable experience for any car enthusiast – or anybody who just enjoys going very fast,” says Phil Talboys, Jaguar Land Rover’s European Engineering Operations Manager. “Our highly experienced professional drivers are veterans of the Nürburgring 24-hour race, making them uniquely qualified to show customers the true potential of these extraordinary supercharged V-8 Jaguars.”
Both cars get power from a 5.0-litre supercharged V-8 that makes 567 hp and 516 lb-ft. Developed by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations, the F-Type SVR uses active aerodynamics, an enhanced chassis and all-wheel drive to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. The 4-door XJR575 is the most powerful, and therefore fastest, XJ sedan ever, hitting 100 km/h in under 4.5 seconds, while delivering the luxury, refinement and comfort expected from a Jaguar sedan.
