Karma’s new luxury electric coupe will make its North American debut during Monterey Car Week, taking to the lawns of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on the regional event’s final weekend.
“Pebble Beach is the definitive luxury automotive event of the year,” says John Maloney, Karma’s Chief Revenue Officer. “For a pioneering challenger like Karma, our presence at Pebble Beach sets the tone for our brand on the global luxury stage.”
Karma says its GT Designed by Pininfarina is the first car to come from the partnership announced at the beginning of 2019. The car was introduced to the world at Auto Shanghai in October.
The Karma GT Designed by Pininfarina is basically the new Karma Revero GT, itself a revamp of the existing Karma Revero. The difference between the Pininfarina design and the Revero GT are quite extensive — the rear doors have been removed, necessitating the reworking of the side body panels (along with every other panel, actually) and allowing the stretching of the hood and shortening of the rear deck, creating a smaller overhang; the other main change was the single large front grille reworked into twin openings, which also allowed the reworking and repositioning of the lights. The interior is also reimagined.
Like the Revero GT on which it is based, power comes from a BMW 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine working as an onboard generator to top up the 28-kWh lithium-ion battery to power the two electric motors (combined output of 399 kW and 550 lb-ft of torque).
Speaking of the 2020 Revero GT, it will also be on display at Pebble Beach, and will be available for guests to test drive.
