The 2015 Kia Soul EV has claimed the first Canadian Green Car of the Year award from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
The all-electric Soul was announced as the inaugural winner of the award in a press conference at the Vancouver International Auto Show. It beat out the Honda Fit, Subaru Legacy and Toyota Camry Hybrid, which were also finalists for the top honour.
“Kia Canada is honoured to receive the Green Car of the Year award as selected by the voting AJAC membership” said Maria Soklis, vice-president and COO of Kia Canada. “Class leading range and ample utility without compromise is a key advantage that the Soul EV offers to Canadians.”
The Soul EV also earned 'Best New City Car' laurels from AJAC, last December, following testing as part of the association's annual Canadian Car of the Year 'TestFest', where competing vehicles are evaluated back-to-back under the same conditions for direct comparison.
Voting for the Green Car award was based not just on a vehicle's 'green' attributes, such as energy efficiency and emissions output, but also on how it fulfills its primary function as an automobile. The Soul was judged to excel on both counts.
