Kia says it will unveil an all-new, mid-size, multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at the 2014 New York International Auto Show later this month.
MPV is an ill-defined term that encompasses minivan-like vehicles of various sizes in markets outside North America, so the range of possibilities for the new vehicle is great.
The fact that Kia says it can transport "as many as eight passengers and their belongings," along with the apparent sliding rear doors in the accompanying teaser photo and the choice of North America for its world debut, suggests it will be the replacement for the on-again off-again Sedona minivan.
Whether it will be a conventional minivan design or some combination of minivan and CUV, based on the Hyundai Santa Fe XL platform, remains to be seen, as does its name.
The Sedona is known as the Carnival outside of North America.
