Lexus LF-NX Crossover Concept

Lexus is using the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show as the launch-pad for a concept vehicle that probably previews a compact crossover addition to the Lexus model range.

Called the LF-NX, it is powered by a new variant of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system

that is said to be tuned for SUV performance.

But it's the vehicle's appearance that will turn heads. All angles and edges, it takes the current Lexus design idiom – called L-finesse – to radical extremes.

In total contrast to earlier Lexus models, there is nothing subtle about the LF-NX concept’s styling.

The front is dominated by an oversize variation of what has become the brand's signature optical-illusion grille. An aggressive vertical cut separates the grille from the front fender.

Black wheel-arch extensions and triangular shapes highlight the side-view, which features a steeply-raked tailgate. The rear view features projecting lamp clusters and vertical cuts that echo those up front.

The LF-NX concept is finished in a new Brushed Metal Silver exterior colour, while the interior is trimmed in leather and black.

Like the outside, the inside is highly sculpted . A driver-focused cockpit features an upper display zone and lower operation zone format with touch-sensitive electrostatic switches, and a new touch pad Remote Touch Interface.

More details are expected following the LF-NX's unveiling on September 10.
