Maserati chose New York as the venue for the introduction of the first Levante SUV built around a V-8, and the line’s new flagship — the Levante Trofeo.
The new top-of-the-line Levante Trofeo gets power from a 3.8-litre Twin-Turbo V-8 that makes 590 hp and generates 538 lb-ft of torque, to launch the all-wheel drive utility vehicle to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and allowing it to hit a top speed of 300 km/h.
And because power is nothing without control, Maserati engineers created a chassis that could handle the fastest Levante ever and provide driving dynamics in line with the Maserati Gran Turismo legacy. Riding on a front wishbone and rear multi-link suspension, the SUV features 50:50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity.
The driver can choose between Normal, I.C.E., Sport and Off Road driving modes, as well as a new Corsa mode with Launch Control. Choosing the different modes adjusts engine power, transmission shift points, suspension height and damping, drivetrain settings, and traction and stability control settings.
“It’s proof that when you play with the elements you end up in a storm”, says Maserati CEO Tim Kuniskis. “In the case of Trofeo, the engineers and designers in Modena knew that the driveline parameters were more than able to cope with additional power and they also knew that Maserati had access to the finest engines on earth. So, they were up to the challenge of making the finest luxury SUV also one of the fastest.”
There is a unique look to the Levante Trofeo, instantly noticeable on the lower front fascia and the rear bumper, more aggressive side vents and 22-inch forged aluminum wheels (the largest ever on a Maserati) with a choice of polished or matte finish. High gloss carbon fibre trim pieces help improve aerodynamics and reduce weight.
The Trofeo cabin features a 1,280-watt, 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, and sculpted sport seats in premium full-grain “Pieno Fiore” natural leather in black, red or tan, all stitched together in contrasting yarn and adorned with the Trofeo logo stitched into the front headrests. Other specific model features include matte carbon fibre trim pieces, floor mats with Trofeo badges, and the Maserati signature clock with a unique dial.
Production of the Levante Trofeo starts in summer 2018, with a special Launch limited edition available to Canadian and US consumers, which will be available in a choice of eight exterior colours, with an exclusive black leather interior highlighted with blue or yellow stitching, and with a centre console serialized badge featuring the buyer’s name.
