Mercedes-Benz Style Coupe Concept

Auto China Beijing, which opens to the public next week, will host the official world debut of the Mercedes-Benz Concept Style Coupé.  Based on Mercedes' past practice of introducing concepts that differ only slightly from subsequent  production models (e.g. - A-Class and B-Class concepts), there is good reason to believe the car previews a forthcoming addition to the company's compact offerings, possibly to be called CLA. Like the CLS, whose sleek shape it emulates, the Concept Style Coupé is a coupe in name and profile only as it is in actuality a four-door sedan. Undeniably avant garde in appearance, it is even more rakish than the CLS, with exaggerated body contouring. In Mercedes-speak, its "sinewy fluid surfaces and sculptural lines" are the physical expression of the brand' "dynamic design idiom." Power comes from a 211-hp turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a4MATIC all-wheel drive system. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz CarsSAID, "We are staking our claim very clearly here. This is the model against which sporty vehicles in the executive segment will have to measure themselves in future." While Beijing will be the official world premiere for the car, it is making a prior appearance at the at the Avant/Garde Diaries event in Los Angeles (April 19-May 10).
