Mini has introduced the first John Cooper Works edition to feature all wheel drive — the new 2017 Mini John Cooper Works Clubman.

The newest addition to the Mini lineup takes JCW high-performance to a new level, with the combination of power from the 228-hp 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (generating 258 lb-ft of torque, the most by any of Mini’s JCW models) and the handling sure-footedness from the latest generation of the ALL4 all-wheel drive system.

“Performance and versatility are part of our DNA and our heritage so naturally there has always been a plan in place to bring the John Cooper Works variant to the Mini Clubman model,” said Thomas Felbermair, Vice President MINI of the Americas. “The addition of the John Cooper Works design and performance enhancements and the new ALL4 all-wheel drive system to the already versatile Mini Clubman model we have once again raised the bar in the premium compact segment.”

Zero to 100 km/h takes about six seconds, whether the driver is sawing the standard 6-speed manual gearbox or digitally manipulating the optional 8-speed Steptronic automatic. A launch control function helps optimum launch from a standstill.

A dual chrome-tipped sport exhaust system gives it a sharp look and nice sound to go with the full out acceleration, a lowered sports suspension (optionally equipped with Dynamic Damper Control) gives it manners befitting the marque’s long racing heritage once you’re done with the front straightaway, and powerful Brembo brakes bring it to manageable cornering speeds quickly and surely.
