The next-generation Mini, which made its world debut in November, will arrive on the North American market this spring. Initially it will be available only in basic 'Hardtop' hatchback form – the most popular model accounting for about 40% of Mini sales in North America – with other models to follow.

But those other models may not include new variants of the niche-market Coupe, Roadster and Paceman models currently offered, according to a report by Automotive News Europe.

Rather, the next-generation lineup is likely to focus on three core models – the Hardtop hatch, Countryman CUV and a production version of the Clubman wagon concept that made its world debut at Geneva in March.
