Nissan has revealed that the next-generation 2015 Murano will make its world debut on April 16 at the New York International Auto Show.

Hailed as the halo vehicle for Nissan's expanding range of crossovers and SUVs, the Murano is said to preview a new Nissan design language for future production vehicles.

The teaser photo provided doesn't give much of a clue to that look. Perhaps the brand's Resonance concept vehicle, introduced at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, is a better indicator.

The new Murano will share the same platform used by the Altima and Pathfinder. No details have been released with respect to its powertrain but it's likely to continue use of the V-6 engine and CVT combination currently offered.

The Resonance featured a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine so that's also a possibility.

Nissan says the new model will also feature a spacious, premium interior and advanced, purposeful safety and connective technology.

The 2015 Murano is expected to go on sale this fall.
