BMW has announced the appointment of Hans Blesse as president and CEO of BMW Group Canada, based in Richmond Hill, Ontario, with the transition taking effect immediately.

Blesse, who began his career with BMW in Canada in 1987, moves into the new job from his position as vice-president of BMW Motorrad USA. During his 27-year tenure with the company he has held positions in sales, marketing, aftersales and training around the world, including Spain, Germany and the United States, as well as Canada.

"His new role in Canada will be a homecoming of sorts and I know he will do well in our very important Canadian market," said Ludwig Willisch, chairman and CEO, BMW Group Region Americas.

Blesse replaces Eduardo Villaverde, who became head of the Canadian subsidiary on September 1, 2011, following a term as CEO of BMW Spain and a history of service with BMW since 1995. Villaverde is departing the company.

"I want to thank Eduardo for his years of service to BMW Group and we all wish him well in his new endeavors," said Willisch.
