The newly introduced Volvo S90 sedan and V90 wagon are now rated R, with the announcement from Volvo of new R-Design versions.

The main visual cues to the new models is the revised front end, with a front spoiler that integrates fog lights and a redesigned grille. Piano black trim at the front and rear adds to the exclusivity and elegance of the designation, as do 5-spoke matte black diamond cut wheels.

Not so obvious, but perhaps more important, is the advanced sport chassis that transforms these cars from everyday utilitarian urban vehicles into motorsports inspired energetic sports models, with the ability to hunker down to the business of handling no matter how the road lies before them.

The interior is not left out, with a high level of attention to detail evident in items such as unique trim pieces, pedals and mats, racing inspired seats, enhanced lighting, and even a unique steering wheel

“R-Design delivers an edge to our elegant estate and sedan models in our 90 Series, with a winning combination of a sportier, more responsive drive with clearly visible performance styling,” said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President Marketing Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars.

Power continues to be supplied by the 316-hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine (which also generates 295 lb-ft of torque) that is both turbocharged and supercharged, with power sent to all four wheels by an 8-speed automatic.

Order are now being taken for delivery later in the year.
