After decades of near stasis in the commercial van market, it has suddenly become one of the most hotly contested segments in the auto industry.

Nissan has just upped the ante in the class by announcing what it calls Canada’s best commercial van warranty on its 2015 NV200 Compact Cargo van.

The current 3-year/60,000-km basic limited bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage is being extended to 5-years/160,000-km, whichever comes first.

The limited powertrain warranty is also being extended from 5-years/100,000-km to 5-years/160,000-kilometres.

“While we’re relatively new to the world of commercial vehicles in Canada, we’ve already proven our mettle with vehicles that endure harsh conditions that passenger cars will never see,” said Steven Rhind, director of marketing at Nissan Canada Inc.

“This warranty reaffirms our confidence in the quality of our vehicles, as some NV200 vehicles we’re aware of in Europe have already accrued 880,000-plus kilometres of real-world use.”

Nissan has been selling commercial vehicles in Canada since spring 2011 with the introduction of the NV Cargo and NV Passenger vans. The NV200 Compact Cargo was released in April 2013

“We’re in the commercial vehicle game for the long haul, and this warranty will further help our customers to have greater confidence in their vehicles,” Rhind added.

The Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo is assembled in Cuernavaca, Mexico and available through a select network of certified Nissan Commercial Vehicle dealers across Canada.
