For years, Texas has been getting unique versions of Fiat Chrysler’s (FCA) Ram pickup, but now Canada is getting its own exclusive Ram — the 5.7-litre Hemi-powered 2019 Ram 1500 Sport, with unique exterior and interior cues, and custom options.
Arising from the overwhelming popularity of the Sport trim with Canadian Ram buyers, the exclusive pickup features a monochromatic exterior in nine colours, with a black billet bar grille (with RAM lettering) and black badges all around.
The 2019 Ram’s new bi-LED headlamps feature black internal bezels and the window surrounds are also blacked out. It rides on standard 20-inch aluminum wheels, also in black, with the option of moving up to 22-inch Black Noise alloys.
“The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 is the strongest, most technological and most capable light-duty truck we have ever built. But we didn’t stop there,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of FCA Canada. “We sold over 100,000 Ram products in Canada last year and we pride ourselves on knowing our customers and listening to their needs. That’s why the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 Sport is being built exclusively for the Canadian market and why we are confident our truck owners will embrace the unique style and capability it offers.”
Power is supplied by the 395-hp 5.7-litre Hemi V-8 (which includes fuel-saving technologies such as variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation). An new-gen 8-speed automatic transmission keeps the power under control, and it now features more than 40 shift maps to optimize fuel economy, performance and drivability. And it can all be covered by an optional more aggressive hood.
Available on Quad Cab (extended cab, but with smaller forward hinged rear doors) and Crew Cab models, the Ram 1500 Sport features an all-black interior accented with Diesel grey stitching, and with satin light black chrome highlights, metal trim and diamond plate centre stack. A Sport badge is prominent on the upper glove box.
Interior standards include power heated sport cloth/premium vinyl seats with special insert mesh fabric (optionally heated and ventilated leather), power adjustable pedals, 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen and heated steering wheel, among others. Options include a dual pane sunroof and reclining rear seats on Crew Cab models.
Standard safety and security features include back-up camera, push-button start, tire pressure monitoring, stability control, brake assist, hill start assist, trailer sway alert and more. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, forward collision warning and mitigation, lane departure warning, surround view camera, auto high beams, and parking assist.
Introduced at the 2018 Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, the 2019 Ram 1500 Sport goes on sale in the second quarter of 2018, with pricing announced closer to launch.
