The Road to World Car 2016 began in Frankfurt on September 15, with the announcement of eligible vehicles and it will end with the winners' award presentation at the New York International Auto Show on March 24, 2016.

En route to that end, it made a five-day stop in Los Angeles so international jurors attending the LA auto show could test drive some candidates that might not be available to them in their home countries.

Over that period, 23 international journalists from ten countries – about one-third of the 74-member juror panel – were able to drive nine of the contenders in the 2016 World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car and World Performance Car categories.

Those cars included the 2016 Kia Optima, Mazda MX-5 and Toyota Prius in the overall World Car of the Year category; Cadillac ATS-V, Cadillac CTS-V and Chevrolet Camaro in Performance; Volfo XC90 in Luxury; and Chevrolet Volt in Green.

The jurors will vote on the winners in two-rounds of voting in mid-January and mid-February 2016. The next stop on The Road to World Car will be at the Geneva International Motor Show where the top three finalists in each category will be announced, prior to the final declaration of all winners at the New York International Auto Show on March 24, 2016.

This year marks the 10th year anniversary of the partnership between the World Car Awards and the New York International Auto Show.
